In de serie ludieke sportevenementen is dit jaar De Hockey India League (HIL) nieuw op de roverskalender. De eerste editie vond plaats in januari en februari van 2013, een vervolg kwam in 2014. Voor de derde editie vragen we de winnaar en verliezend finalist.
In de serie ludieke sportevenementen is dit jaar De Hockey India League (HIL) nieuw op de roverskalender. De HIL is een professionele hockeycompetitie georganiseerd door Hockey India. Een aantal franchiseteams uit India biedt in een veiling tegen elkaar op om tientallen hockeyers (Indiërs en buitenlanders) aan hun selectie toe te mogen voegen. Hierna spelen deze teams een maand lang wedstrijden tegen elkaar, eerst in een competitie, vervolgens in een play-off. De eerste editie vond plaats in januari en februari van 2013, een vervolg kwam in 2014. Voor de derde editie vragen we de winnaar en verliezend finalist.

HIL: DHONI S RANCHI RAYS WIN CROWN ON DEBUT
India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni co-owned Ranchi Rays fought hard to eke out a 3-2 win in the shoot-out, after they were locked at 2-2 with Punjab Warriors in the regulation time of the thrilling summit clash of the Hockey India League.
Oud winnaar Ilja Flem was in zijn nopjes. In de strijd op de Glazen Bol pakte hij niet alleen 1,7 punten voor de winst van de Rays, hij mag ook de maximale bonus bijschrijven. Punjab Warriors verloren de finale, exact zoals hij had voorspeld. Rover Flem is na vandaag terug te vinden op de derde plaats in de tussenstand.

PUNJAB WARRIORS TRUMP DEFENDING CHAMPIONS DELHI WAVERIDERS
Punjab Warriors outclassed defending champions Delhi Waveriders in the second semifinal of the Hockey India League (HIL) 2015 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here on Saturday to set up a title clash with Ranchi Rays. Sandeep Singh (third minute) and Augustin Mazzilli (35th) minute scored for Warriors, who reached their second consecutive final. They had lost to Waveriders in the final of the 2014 edition.
Veteran drag-flicker Sandeep stepped up to score his 11th goal of the league, which puts him one short of Jackson’s highest tally of 12 goals. Warriors, led by five-time World Player of the Year Jamie Dwyer, peppered the rival circle with tenacity and accuracy, while Waveriders relied on their counter-attack and earned a penalty corner in the dying moments of the first quarter. But World Goalkeeper of the Year Jaap Stockmaan thwarted the threat posed by Rupinderpal Singh.
Waveriders skipper Sardar Singh, unlike other matches, looked energetic at the center of the pitch. He fed Simon Child and Matt Gohdes from the top of the Warriors circle but to no avail.
Even though World Player of the Year Mark Knowles of Australia didn’t play a bigger role as he was returning from an ankle injury, coordination between Sandeep, Christopher Ciriello and Kieran Govers was quite good and it reflected in their performance. Govers, who generally plays as a striker, shifted to lay further stability at the back after his team took a 2-0 lead. However, Waveriders got two back-to-back penalty corners but wasted them due to incompetence of the stopper. Waveriders wasted several chances and Sunday they will take on Wizards for the third place.
RANCHI RAYS NAAR FINALE HIL
Ranchi Rays heeft de finale bereikt van de Hockey India League. De ploeg was zaterdag in de halve eindstrijd te sterk voor Uttar Pradesh Wizards, het team van coach Roelant Oltmans. De beslissing viel na een spannende serie shoot-outs. Na de reguliere speeltijd was de stand 1-1.
In de eerste twee kwarten werd niet gescoord. Ashley Jackson mocht voor Ranchi vier keer aanleggen voor een strafcorner, maar de Brit vond telkens doelman Sreejesh op zijn pad. Het was echter Uttar dat de score opende. In het derde kwart benutte VR Raghunath de eerste aan Uttar toegewezen strafcorner. Acht minuten later trok Jackson de stand geleid na het verzilveren van een strafbal. In de laatste minuten zette Ranchi aan, maar een serie van strafcorners werd door de verdediging van Uttar onschadelijk gemaakt.
Shoot-outs: een misser van Sander Baart bleek uiteindelijk voor Uttar fataal omdat Daniel Beale daarna het hoofd koel hield en Ranchi naar de finale schoot.

Vrijdag staat Uttar Pradesh Wizards (met Bob de Voogd, Jeroen Hertzberger, Sander Baart, Marcel Balkestein en Wouter Jolie) en Delhi Waveriders (met Pirmin Blaak) tegenover elkaar. Vier uur later speelt Dabang Mumbai (met Floris Evers) tegen Jaypee Punjab Warriors, waar Jaap Stockmann het doel verdedigt.

TEAM HOLLAND NOG ZONDER ZEGE IN HOCKEY INDIAN LEAGUE
De Uttar Pradesh Wizards zijn na twee duels op de Hockey India League nog zonder zege. Team Holland, met vijf Nederlandse spelers en Roelant Oltmans als coach, ging met 3-2 kopje onder tegen de Punjab Warriors. Bij de Warriors staat Jaap Stockmann onder de lat.
Eerder op de dag morste titelhouder Delhi Waveriders punten tegen de Ranchi Rays. Mede dankzij een treffer van Nick Wilson (oud-Rotterdam) hielden de Rays een punt over aan dit onderonsje.(RB)
